Even as the ministry of health & family welfare claims that it has been able to control the entry of irrational fixed dose combinations, the latest issue of Monthly Index of Medical Specialities (MIMS), a leading medical index, has included more drugs in its list of irrational combinations.
The new combinations that figure in the MIMS list are Metronidazole + Furazolidone + Loperamide, Ibuprofen + paracetamol + Serratiopeptidase, Cefadroxil + Ambroxol, Cetrizine + Dextromethorphan + Ambroxol and Glimepiride + Rosiglitazone + Metformin.
According to MIMS, their list of irrational combinations contains names of drugs, which are "dubious fixed-dose combinations being marketed in India but not approved in any developed country." It also states that "many of these combinations are not approved by Drugs Controller General of India and hence, illegal.
