More than 10,000 registered delegates had participated at the 61st Indian Pharmaceutical Congress 2009 (IPC 2009) organized by the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPC Association) and hosted by the All India Drug Control Officers’ Association (AIDCOC) at the Nirma University, Ahmedabad from December 11 to 13.
The 62nd IPC 2010 was announced to be held at Manipal University, Karnataka during December 2010.
The three -day congress was inaugurated on December 11 by Narendra Modi, Chief Minister, Gujarat. Jaynarayan Vyas, Minister – Health & Family Welfare and Parbatbhai Patel, Minister of State – Health & Family Welfare both were the guest s of honour at the inaugural ceremony. The function was presided over by S W Deshpande – President IPC Association. Many of the high profile dignitaries of the pharmaceutical industry were present at the inauguration.
The inaugural was attended by more than 7,000 delegates, students, guests, invitees and industrialists. During the programme, various personalities from different areas of the pharma sector were awarded for their outstanding contribution to the industry . Dr. A. Ramkiashan and M. Bhaskaran were given awards as the Best Drug Controller Officers and Subodh Proilkar as the best scientist for the year. Prof. M L Khurana Memorial Lecture Award was given to to Dr Rao VSV Vadlamudli, Prof. M. L. Khurana Memorial Medal to Anitha Jose and Pankti Desai, Prof. K. C. Cheterjee Memorial Award to Dr. H. L. Bhalla, Prof. G. P. Shrivastava Memorial Award to Prof. Tilak Raj Juneja, and Shroff Memorial National Award to Pankaj Patel (Zydus Cadila Healthcare Ltd.), I. A. Modi (Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd.), Dr. C. J. Shishoo, C G Bhavsar, M R Shastri, A G Shah, Girish Bhagat, Dr. Subodh P. Adeshara, Hemant G. Koshia, and K. K. Goswami were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the society. Scientific Abstract and Souvenir of the 61st IPC2009 were unveiled at the ceremony.
The event comprised informative scientific sessions to equip the current pharmacy generation to utilise future opportunities and technologies. Each presenter for the scientific sessions were selected carefully to impart the focused information on the topics assigned individually.
The Scientific Sessions were Chaired, Co-Chaired and Presented by the eminent personalities of the pharmacy and pharmaceutical fields from India and abroad.
For the first time in the history of the IPCs, the Scientific Services Committee had received more than 6,500 abstracts, out of which, more than 3,000 papers were selected and displayed at a specially designated area at the venue during the congress.
At the valedictory function which took place on December 13, Jaynarayan Vyas, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Gujarat State, the Chief Guest of the function felicitated the chair-persons and the co-chair-persons of all the task committees of the local organizing committee. All young scientists who were toppers in subjects related to them were also felicitated by the Health Minister.
At the exhibition spread over more than 12,000 sq. mt. area alongside the IPC, more than 282 pharma-allied manufacturers and suppliers displayed their products and services.
For the first time the local organizing committee took the advantage of web technology to promote the event, invite the online registrations as well as scientific papers, submissions process and fastest communication networking process for more than 10,000 participants.
