MP CM to inaugurate "Health Mela" at MGM Medical College today

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh will inaugurate a two-day `Health Mela' displaying advances in medicine and different modalities of treatment at the MGM Medical College on Saturday. The special guest of the inaugural function would be Dr Vijaylaxmi Sadho, Minister of Medical Education, Madhya Pradesh government.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference here, Dr D K Taneja, Dean, MGM Medical College, said the exhibition, organized as a part of the 125th year celebrations of KEH Medical School, aims at acquainting the common man with the medical facilities available in Indore. It would also act as a platform to highlight the history of the college, its achievements and its future plans.

The Dean said that special arrangements have been made for the school children to visit the exhibition, while during rest of the period it will be open to all.

The exhibition comprises around 46 stalls displaying the work at different departments of the medical college, College of Nursing, School of Nursing and School of Physiotherapy. The Aids Control Cell will also display attractive awareness posters to spread their message.

The main attraction will be the stall of the anatomy department where specimens of different human organs and posters explaining different organ systems, are displayed. The orthopaedic department will show the recent advances in the field of orthopaedics and rare surgeries performed at the MY Hospital.

A parallel audio-video session would be held at one of the lecture halls where documentaries on advances in medicine and prevention of common diseases, would be screened, said Dr Taneja.

Highlighting the achievements of the medical college, the Dean said after its formation in 1948, around 13,427 students have passed out of the Post Graduate, Graduate and Diploma courses from the MGM Medical College. Earlier, the college was called the King Edward Hospital and Medical School, which incidentally was formed in 1878.

The college has been the alma mater for several prominent figures including Dr S K Mukherjee, Dr R S Ranawat, Dr Nandlal Boradia, Dr J S Mahashabde, Dr J D Khandekar, Dr B M Shah, Sir Dr S K Pandey and several others.
