MUSRF highlights need for innovative and inter disciplinary research
Manipal University Students Research Forum (MUSRF) highlights the importance of inter disciplinary research. A day- long event held on November 14, 2013, called for better research practices. The platform brought together a 100 participants which included a panel of experts and students to deliberate the way forward in medical and pharmaceutical research.
In his introductory address, Dr N Udupa, director of Research, Health Sciences, Manipal University briefed about the importance of inter disciplinary research.
The Chief Guest for the Inaugural function was Vice Chancellor Dr K Ramnarayan and Guest of Honour was Dr Vasantha Muthuswamy, former director of ICMR. The welcome address was by the President of MUSRF Partha Dabke, Seventh Semester, KMC, Manipal, followed by briefing of the objectives, guideliness and policies of MUSRF by B Meenashi Vanathi, research scientist, MCOPS, Manipal.
Also present for the occasion were Dr Sathyamoorthy, director, School of Life Sciences, Manipal; Dr Pradeep Kumar, dean, KMC, Manipal; Dr N Sreekumaran Nair, HOD, Department of Statistics, Manipal; Dr Nishanth H Manapure, director, Faculty of Architecture, Manipal; Dr Shyamala Hande, deputy registrar- Academics (Health Sciences) from Manipal Campus; Dr Chankrapani & Dr Gopalakrishna Bhat from Mangalore Campus.
Dr Raghuvir Pai, director of Research, Technical and Management Sciences spoke on how MUSRF would serve as a platform for students of different profession to work together for better research output in interdisciplinary areas.
Dr Ramnarayan insisted upon the importance of research as career and need to inculcate research interest in under graduate students which will enable more number of students to take up research as their career.
Dr Vasantha Muthuswamy shared her experience of taking up research as her career in ICMR.
