Nanotech India 2009, an annual conference and business meet in nanotechnology to discuss the latest developments in nano-medicines, nano-biotechnology, nano-engineering materials and environmental nanotechnology, will be held from August 14 to 16 at Cochin, Kerala.
The conference is aimed at pulling together industry leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs and investors to create a platform for discussion on the issues and opportunities that are vital in commercializing Nanotech innovations. Though held nationally earlier, the event for the first time is going international by including overseas scientists and nanotech companies in the presenters' and participants' list.
In the three-day event which focuses on the application part of nanotech research, the third day will be dedicated to discussions and business meets in nano-medicine and nano-biotherapeutic segments. The segment would get more important place in the next year, Nanotech India 2010, as there are plans to conduct a two-day conference on nano-medicines from the next conference, informs George Varughese, managing director, AG Nanotech Impex India Pvt Ltd, the organiser of the event.
"The event will not only have scientific sessions to cover the latest developments in the nanotech segment, but also will play the role of a venue for the industry to meet and develop their business projects through new strategic investments and partnerships," said Varughese. "This is the first of its kind event conducted wholly by a private company without the support of any government departments," he claims. The nano-medicine meet is envisaged to attract a large number of scientists, physicians, pharma students and business groups to look for the latest options for their future growth.
At present, nanotechnology is fast becoming a necessity in all spheres of modern life and the impact of this cutting-edge technology has become so much more evident, especially in the arenas of medicine, industry, environment, agriculture, power, construction etc.
Moreover, the technological advancements in nanotech have been extensively groundbreaking, urging the industry to look much ahead by facilitating interaction with experts and updating of existing skills. The aim of the event is to throw more light into the remarkable advancement in the segment and to create awareness about the possibilities of shifting the theories to practical applications of nano-size particles, he added. The event will be addressed by various well known scientists in the field, including Dr John Pickup, professor of Diabetes and Metabolism, King's College, London, Dr Vidhya Ramaswamy, an expert in nano-biotechnology and molecular biology and Dr Pulickel M Ajayan on among the pioneers in the field of carbon nano-tubes.
