The Bangalore-based Narayana Hrudayalaya has established a telemedicine link with a hospital in Lahore. The hospital is also trying to launch similar telemedicine services in African and Asian countries.

A Pakistani business delegation, which flew in for the inauguration of the telemedicine project, has now invited Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, managing director, Narayana Hrudayalaya to visit Pakistan to help them set-up a state-of-the-art cardiac centre in Lahore.

The team was also interested in launching a programme, which would be an exact replica of the Karnataka Government's Yeshasvini, co-operative health insurance scheme for farmers where Narayana Hrudayalaya provides treatment and surgery to the farmers. A similar scheme is being proposed in Pakistan.

The hospital has treated more than 12,000 cardiac patients using telemedicine connectivity provided by the Indian Space research Organisation (ISRO).
