National conference on “Patient Safety and Drug Regulatory Scenario in India' begins in Srinagar

National conference on Patient Safety and Drug Regulatory Scenario in India organized by Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM) India Initiative in collaboration with Government of India & Government of Jammu & Kashmir is being held today at the Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, Srinagar.

The one-day event would have the release of the  Kolkata Report of the 2nd Regional Conference on “Criteria for Measuring the MOST Consumer-Friendly State(s) in India” supported by Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India.

Dr G N Singh, DCGI,  spoke on the Drug Regulatory Mechanism in India.  Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Consumer Affairs highlighted on The Patient Safety Should Always Prevail over Profit Quality.

Prof Showkat Ahmed Zargar, Director, Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar addressed on Quality & Safety is the CORE of Medical Science.  Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta, Medical Supdt & Head of Department, Hospital Administration, AIIMS, New Delhi gave an insight on the Patient Safety Initiatives in India & Role of World Health Organization.

Also present is K L Sharma, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, along with drug regulators from across India including Karnataka and Gujarat. Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi , Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University delivered the keynote address.

 There are two panel discussions. One is on the Success Stories on Drug Regulatory Practices & Good Manufacturing Practices to be deliberated by regulators among others. The other is on Lessons Learnt from the Success Stories & Criteria for Measuring the Most Consumer-Friendly States in India.
