The Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) is organizing its 22nd annual conference in Bangalore. This year’s conference is organized along with the Karnataka Surgeons Chapter and the Association of Surgeons of South Zone. The 3-day event commences from February 27th and will have nearly 800 delegates from the state.
Dr KS Gopinath, surgical oncologist, is the chairman of the organizing committee and Dr Vasudeva Rao, a surgeon from Manipal Hospital is the organizing secretary. The conference is hosted by the Surgical Society of Bangalore and the city branch of ASI under presidentship of Dr Jaganmaya.
A workshop on evidence based hernia surgery has been organized at AV Hospital as part of the conference, for which Dr M Ramesh, a leading laparoscopic surgeon will be the convener.
The conference is to be held at the newly built convention centre at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) campus. The faculty includes many speakers from the country and abroad.
The continuing medical education programme, in memory of late Dr TS Jairam will be held on February 27. Dr Randolf Steinhagan from USA will be the main speaker. The scientific session will have main orations (in the name of Dr HS Bhat, Dr AJ Narendran and Dr MP Pai) and 4 symposia. More than 100 papers covering the surgical specialty will be presented. There is to be an award session for postgraduates and practicing surgeons.
Another unique feature of this conference is the video consoles where any delegates can view the surgical procedures performed by the experts.
A large trade exhibition will also be held at the conference. With more than 35 stalls put up by instrument manufactures and pharmaceutical companies.
Dr CNR Rao eminent scientist and head of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research will inaugurate the conference. Dr D Nagaraja, director, NIMHANS and Dr Jothiramalingam, president of Association of Surgeons of India will be the chief guest. Dr Bhadrannavar, chairman, Karnataka Surgeons Chapter will preside over the event.
