The city's 173-bedded Breach Candy Hospital has added two services at its centre namely an Emergency Medical Services ward and an exclusive Centre for Advanced Dentistry (CAD) here recently.

The 4-bedded emergency medical service ward has been set up with an initial funding of about Rs 20 lakh donated by one of the hospital's regular trustees. The EMS would work round the clock with three attending consultants (rotating shift) who would be handling various emergency cases including trauma, accidents and cardiac arrests.

Headed by Dr V P deSa, medical director of the hospital, the EMS is fully geared with a ventilator, defibrillator and other essential equipments and has been receiving a steady influx of patients since its launch.

Apart from the EMS, the hospital has also added a Centre for Advanced Dentistry (CAD), a multispecialty dental clinic run by a group of renowned dental surgeons offering a wide range of general and specialty dental services.

The new CAD would include preventive care and emergency restorative services including the departments of periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, oral and maxillo-facial surgery, cosmetic dentistry, peadiatric dentistry and prosthodontics and implants.

Set up by Dr Rajeev Narvekar and Dr Manisha Soni, the new dental clinic houses state-of-the-art equipment including an x-ray unit, dental microscope, dental laboratory with all the latest and high quality dental materials to carry out various surgical and restorative techniques.

"With in-house well-qualified and competent dental surgeons/consultants, the centre emphasizes on preventive, restorative, surgical and cosmetic dentistry thereby advocating on the need to preserve natural teeth for life as well as maintaining best oral health," says Dr Rajeev Narvekar. Clinic's hygiene, cleanliness and décor are the other etiquettes that set us apart from the others, added Dr Narvekar.

The various treatments that could be availed at the centre include; surgical and non-surgical gum treatment, bone grafts, crowns and bridges, partial and complete dentures, implants, endodontic and orthodontic treatment of chronic infected teeth and gum, recontouring to eliminate spacing and crowding, surgical treatment of dental and orofacial abnormalities, cosmetic restorations, smile designing, dental and facial traumatic injuries and tooth jewellery among the others.
