The department of pharmacy practice at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), Punjab, in collaboration with the Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD) and the India-WHO Programme on Essential Drugs will conduct a programme on Promoting Rational Use of Drugs by Involving the Pharmacist (PRUDIP).
The event, which will be held at the NIPER campus on December 26 and 27 will be targeted at hospitals and community pharmacists, pharmacy students/teachers, college and university teachers and other pharmaceutical organizations.
The PRUDIP programme will focus on the role(s) of the pharmacists to promote rational use of drugs. Participants are expected to learn practical approaches for studying and implementing the RUD key features including drug policy, essential drug list, indicators of RUD, and proper interventions to change inappropriate pattern of drug use in the daily practice of health providers.
The programme will be conducted in English and will consist of presentations and discussions. Participants would be encouraged to exchange experiences and ideas, which will add depth to the learning process. Programme material is based on those developed by the INRUD, DSPRUD and WHO, which will also witness the participation of well known experts in the field of pharmacy and pharmacology. The participants will be exposed to a wide range of international experiences and materials, asserts NIPER.
Concept of rational drug use and therapy, identification of drug use problems, standard treatment guidelines for improving quality of care, factors influencing prescribing patterns, indicators for the assessment of drug use, evaluation of effectiveness of drug use, patient education about safe drug use and good storage practices of pharmaceuticals, would be the main topics highlighted at the event.
