Narmada Kidney Foundation (NKF), a NGO, aiming to help those with kidney diseases is planning to create awareness among the people on kidney infections and their treatment. As a part of their awareness campaign, NKF has organised a seminar on 'Prevention and Treatment of Kidney Stones' at Hiramongi Navneet Hospital, Mulund on February 5. Dr. Mukesh Shete, a renowned consultant nephrologist will be the speaker for the event.
NKF carries out many activities in its endeavour to achieve its goals. It conducts prevention camps to identify the population at risk and to guide them. Various topics related to kidney are discussed during the educational meeting organised by the NKF. Besides the educational aspects, these meetings offer an opportunity for patients suffering from chronic diseases to interact with each other. Such interactions have been instrumental in helping patients cope up with kidney failure.
"At NKF medicines are available at subsidised rates. We have made an arrangement with few pharmaceutical companies, so that members get medicines at subsidised rates on presenting the membership card. Experienced dieticians take into account all aspects of a healthy diet, plans snacks for patients suffering from diseases like hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure and transplant patients. They are also suitable for health conscious or obese people," said the NKF sources.
The foundation also publishes a newsletter (Kidney Care) on quarterly basis, which gives information on various aspects of kidney diseases in simple language. It has published two books - 'Kidney failure: A guide for patients and families' and 'Diet in chronic renal failure'. Audiovisual information material is also available for more information.
