The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the prices of bulk drugs betamethasone & its derivatives and ibuprofen.
According to an NPPA press release, the prices have been revised from Rs.224/gm to Rs.230/gm for betamethasone alcohol, from Rs. 212/gm to Rs.219/gm for betamethasone valerate, from Rs. 185/gm to Rs. 183/gm for betamethasone sodium phosphate and from Rs. 346/kg to Rs. 391/kg for ibuprofen.
A corresponding revision of the formulation prices which are manufactured using these bulk drugs are also in the offing. The authority had conducted a detailed cost price study of these drugs with reference to the major producers.
While price revision for betamethasone and its derivatives were based on the cost price study on M/s GlaxoSmithKline, M/s Shasun and M/s Dr. Reddy’s Labs were considered for ibuprofen.
The revised notified prices shall become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the Official Gazette. All the manufacturers of the formulations utilizing the drug in their scheduled formulations are advised to follow the provisions of DPCO, 1995 with regard to pricing of the derivative formulations, the release said.
