The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the ceiling prices of 227 formulation packs through a latest notification after its mammoth list of price revision issued n 1009 formulation packs in March 24, 2008. The new revision includes changes in retail price of various strengths of insulin products from Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd, Wockhardt, Cadila Healthcare and Biocon along with various package sizes of Dettol antiseptic products from Reckitt Benckiser India Limited.
The authority has fixed prices against the strengths of packs to effect the ceiling prices on tablet, capsule, injectable, cream and liquid formulations and has fixed the equivalent Maximum Retail Price (MRP) inclusive of all taxes specifying and manufacturer or marketing company cannot claim exemption on any ground, unless specifically permitted by the government or the pricing authority through an order.
The prices were fixed against strengths of creams and liquids in volumes of 10, 20, 30, 50, 100, 200, 250 and 500 mls even as the price of tablets and capsules were fixed with a note specifying that for different packing material used or any special feature claimed, companies should approach NPPA for approval or fixation of specific prices.
The NPPA has also revised the price of 20 different types, strengths and package size of recombinant human insulin manufactured or imported by Wockhardt Ltd, four types and strengths of Insucare injection - Insucare R, Insucare N, Insucare M 50 and Insucare M 30 - from Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd and Humarap, Humanext N and Humstard 30/70 insulin rDNA pack from Cadila Healthcare Ltd. The price of Insugen - R(regular), Insugen -N(NPH) isophane and Insugen 30/70 isophane insulin has recorded a slight increase in MRP. Prices for 5 package size of Dettol Antiseptic Liquid manufactured or imported by Reckitt Benckiser India Limited have also witnessed a slight increase in MRP according to the revision.
The price fixation was announced on various strengths and pack size of vitamin E capsule, salbutamol capsule, salbutamol with bromohexine syrup, rifampicin tablet and its combinations, rifampicin syrup, ranitidine tablets and combinations, nalidixic acid tablets and suspension, erythromycin stearate tablets, erythromycin dry syrup, dextropropoxyphene combination capsules and tablets, chloroquine tablets and its paracetamol combination, cefotaxime sodium injections and betamethasone tablet and injections.
