Ocimum Biosolutions Inc, here on Monday, announced that it had agreed to buy Gene Logic's genomics business for $10 million in cash. The purchase included Gene Logic's Knowledge Products business, anchored by the world's largest databases of human biology (BioExpress) and response to treatment (ToxExpress) integrated with the Genesis software systems and expanded through web-enabled products Ascenta, Sciantis and ToxShield.
According to information provided by Ocimum Biosolutions, Ocimum had also acquired Gene Logic's comprehensive genomic and genetic service business to provide customers with access to a biorepository over 80,000 unique samples, targeted sample accrual using its significant clinical network, data generation on multiple platforms. They included Affymetrix, Agilent, ABI and others, and biostastical data and data analysis services. The business would be operated out of the current state-of-the art laboratory facility in Gaithers burg, Maryland, the information said.

Ocimum is a privately held company with equity from International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private equity arm of the World Bank Group. It is part of the Ficus Enterprises, a group of 11 companies in five different industries. Ocimum's Indian headquarters are located in Hyderabad while European headquarters are in IJsselstein, The Netherlands.
