OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc. signs distribution agreement with Avegno-based Micerium S.p.A. for exclusive rights of the AcceleDent System in Italy

The AcceleDent System is currently being sold outside the USA and was first introduced in the United Kingdom in October 2009. The lightweight appliance, used to speed up the rate of orthodontic treatment, is intended for 20 minutes of daily use. Patients simply bite down on the Mouthpiece to hold it in place, which allows freedom of the hands to engage in other routine, daily activities during the treatment session. Patients have reported using the appliance while engaged in a variety of activities, including homework, watching television, reading and listening to music.

Italy is a key international market for us and it bodes well that this market leader shares our philosophy and excitement for how AcceleDent can change orthodontic treatment.” AcceleDent was introduced to the Italian orthodontic community during the SIDO meeting in Rome November 11-13. Dr Ravindra Nanda reported on the recent results from a randomized, controlled clinical trial conducted at the University of Texas Health Science Centre at San Antonio under the guidance of Dr Dubravko Pavlin where AcceleDent demonstrated, with statistical significance, that tooth movement could be safely accelerated by 38 per cent to 50 per cent during space closure and even more so during the alignment phase.

This definitive distribution agreement between OrthoAccel and Micerium formalizes the intent to partner together that was initiated under a Terms of Agreement in June of this year. OrthoAccel has been selling the AcceleDent System outside the USA since October 2009. FDA clearance is pending based on an application submitted earlier this year.
