Reacting to the Pharmabiz report on drug major Pfizer recalling numerous batches of Terramycin injectables from different parts of the country, the company reasoned detection of sediments of calcium salt in some batches necessitated the voluntary recall.

“The sedimentation wasn't harmful and to the best of our knowledge there have been no adverse complaints from the field,” Pfizer's spokesperson told Pharmabiz.

“However, as part of good governance, we have voluntarily stopped sale of the said batches, which were all within the expiry date. We have also changed the source of supply and all our subsequent batches in the market comply fully with all quality standards," he added.

Pharmabiz reported on Thursday that Pfizer has called back vials of Terramycin Injectable Solution (Vet) 30 ml bearing batch numbers- 42051096G, 42051097G, 42051084G, 42051085G, 42051088G and Terramycin Injectable Solution (Vet) 100 ml batch numbers-42051355G and 42051357G from across the country.

The drugs inspector of Eluru (AP), S Vijaya Kumar, first detected that the injectables were not up to the standard and had alerted the company to call back the stocks. The samples are being investigated at the state drug control laboratory.
