Pharmexcil to conduct global CEO conclave, distribute awards on Sept 14

The Pharmaceutical Exports Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) is planning to organise a global conclave of CEOs (chief executive officers) of pharma industry and distribute awards for companies excelled in exports and secured patents remarkably for their products, on its sixth annual day to be held on September 14, 2010.

The Pharmexcil is expecting representation from the top export destinations, region-wise, consisting of higher management officials from major companies which has business relationship with India along with the top management representatives from all the Indian exporters in the global conclave, to be held at HICC, Hyderabad. Stefan Borges, chief executive officer of Lonza Inc, USA, the global leader in API production, has confirmed his participation in the conclave as key note speaker, according to the council sources.

The conclave, a first of its kind summit to be organised by Pharmexcil, would act as a platform to meet and interact with CEOs of Indian as well as international pharma industry and Indian policy makers. Ministers from the state and central ministry, officials with higher ranks in various ministries related to pharmaceutical industry are also expected to be present for the conclave.

Further, the council will distribute awards to Indian exporters excelled in their field of operations, in eight categories, for the second time consecutively, said Dr P V Appaji, executive director, Pharmexcil. "The award is part of our efforts to encourage the industry, to show that the government is with them for support. We are happy that our members have taken the Pharmexcil awards as matter of pride," said Appaji. The awards are sponsored with support from Department of Pharmaceuticals.

This time, the Pharmexcil is also looking forward to include cash awards along with certificates for the firms, provided the funds from Govt of India are available adequately, said Appaji. The awards will be delivered to the categories including bulk drugs or APIs, formulations, biotech products, herbal or ASU or nutraceuticals, medical devices or surgicals or diagnostics, biotech research or genomics, NCEs or drug discovery and other areas like excipients. Awards will be bestowed to companies in large scale and small scale sector excelling in exports and securing patents from any patent granting authority in the year 2009-10, separately. Last date to submit the applications for awards has been fixed as September, 10, 2010.

The election to select a new board of organising members for Pharmexcil for the year 2010-11 will also take place on the annual day, according to a council announcement.
