Philips uses LEDs to light buildings in pink to create awareness about breast cancer
Philips Lighting spreads the pink light to the Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj and The Vatika Towers in Gurgaon to raise awareness about the importance of breast health and early detection to millions worldwide. As part of its programme to raise awareness for the importance of early detection, the company has used its innovative colored LEDs to light up landmarks around the world in eye-catching pink, in a global relay throughout the month of October.
As part of The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign’s Global Landmark Illuminations Initiative the company is gearing up to spread the message of ‘Connect. Communicate. Conquer. For a Future Free of Breast Cancer’.
“Philips Lighting continues to create innovative lighting solutions to enhance the life and well being of the people all over the world. We have joined this fight by doing what we do best: using the power of light to raise awareness and let people know that early detection of breast cancer can save lives,” said Sumit Joshi, senior director, Marketing, Philips Lighting India.
The other landmarks to be lighted up in pink colour in India include the HCL and Cognizant Technologies in Chennai, Prestige Forum Mall (Chennai) and Brigade in Bangalore.
“At HCL, we have always maintained that good health is the key to a happy and fulfilled life. Statistics show that each year nearly one lakh women in India are affected by breast cancer. The number of people being diagnosed with breast cancer is increasing, but survival rates are improving. Therefore on the occasion of National Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, we have partnered with Philips Lighting to create awareness on breast cancer among our employees. Through this initiative, we hope that people are aware of the cause and symptoms of the disease and are thus able to take preventive measures at an early stage,” said Srimathi Shivashankar, Principal Diversity & Sustainability, and HCL Technologies.
