Piramal Healthcare net profit at Rs.95 cr in Q3

Piramal Healthcare's standalone net profit reached at Rs.95.39 crore during the second quarter ended September 2011 and its net sales amounted to Rs.270.69 crore. During the corresponding period of last year, Piramal sold its domestic formulations business to Abbott Healthcare Pvt Ltd on slump sale basis and the figures are not comparable. Its income from investments stood at Rs.61.01 crore as against Rs.58.68 crore in the same period of last year which represents the income earned on the temporary investments made out of proceeds from sale of the domestic formulation business and the holding in Piramal Diagnostic Services Pvt Ltd.


For the continuing businesses, total operating income for the quarter was up by 32 per cent to Rs.53.47 crore. The operating profit for the quarter was at Rs.12.98 crore against operating loss of Rs.3.86 crore in similar period of last year. The operating margin for the quarter was higher at 24.3 per cent. Net profit was at Rs.52.40 crore from continuing operations.


Pharma Solutions (CRAMS) business recorded sales of Rs.305.1 crore as against Rs.230.4 crore in the last period, representing a growth of 32.4 per cent. The revenues from Indian facilities grew by 82.7 per cent to Rs.187.4 crore. Its revenues from Priamal Critical Care business grew by 43 per cent to Rs.91.6 crore from Rs.64 crore. The company received registration approvals for EU countries for Sevoflurane and supplies will commence soon. OTC & ophthalmology sales grew by 58.9 per cent to Rs.57.1 crore.


For the first half ended September 2011, Piramal's net sales touched to Rs.526.19 crore and it earned a net profit of Rs.196.48 crore. EPS worked out to Rs.8.4 per share. Pharma solutions business grew by 35.9 per cent to Rs.595.3 crore against Rs.437.90 crore. Its revenues from Indian facilities moved up by 78.8 per cent to Rs.359.8 crore. Critical care business grew by 6.1 per cent to Rs.182.7 crore.
