The Ghaziabad-based Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for Indian Medicines (PLIM) will be recognized as the appellate laboratory for sample analysis and tests of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) including Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani.

The laboratory, which is currently used for the analytical services for the preparation and revision of Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani Pharmacopoeias, is not yet included in the Drugs & Cosmetics Act for the government sample analysis.

The inclusion of this Laboratory in the D&C Act for the purpose of sample testing in connection with drug adverse reports and such instances, will be effected with amendment proposed by the Department of Ayush in the Rule 163, which deals with the procedures for dispatch of samples to government analysts.

The proposal, now in the draft stage, will be subjected to few more changes in consultation with the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) as there are minor corrections needed in the Rule 163 and 164 of the Act before the amendments.

Currently there are 6 laboratories in the country dedicated to the sample analysis of ISM. These laboratories are under various State Food and Drug Control departments.
