The Pharmacy Council of Pondicherry has elected Dr VM Munisamy, the president of the Council, as its member to the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). He is the second member representing Pondicherry to the PCI after Dr A J Mehta who had represented the Union Territory in 1975 when the Pondicherry Pharmacy Council was constituted.
The special meeting of the Council to elect Munisamy was held last week. He said his primary aim is to concentrate on Education Regulation. He will make all his possible efforts to fill up the vacancies of teaching faculty in the government pharmacy college in Pondicherry, he said.
“The total requirement of faculty in the college is 24. But the College has at present only 8 teachers. I will pressurize the Pharmacy Council of India and the AICTE to appoint more staff with the support of the government. It is my prime duty. The college is conducting UG and PG courses,” Munisamy told Pharmabiz.
Dr M Gopal, the principal of the college said Dr Munisamy’s appointment as the member to the PCI will make a total change in the state’s pharmacy education. “We are expecting so much from his side. The process of appointment of teachers has already started. However, his efforts will speed it up,” Dr Gopal said.
Dr Munisamy was elected as the President of the Pondicherry Pharmacy Council in October last year. It was after a period of 35 years that the Government of Pondicherry reconstituted the Pharmacy Council with elected members.
