Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Chairman, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was bestowed upon with the prestigious “Jaswant Singh Rai Memorial Lectureship Award 2015” by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, on November 18, 2015, for his distinguished contributions in pharmaceutical and life sciences.
Professor A S Brar (Vice Chancellor, GNDU), Professor T S Banipal (Director-Research, GNDU) and Professor K S Rai (Emeritus Professor, University of Notre Dame, USA, and Founder, Jaswant Singh Rai Memorial Trust) interacted and conferred the award on him during the award ceremony. The Award included an engraved plaque and cash prize of Rs. 25,000 as a token of recognition to Professor Bhoop.
On this occasion, Professor Bhoop delivered the Award oration lecture on the topic “Overcoming Biological Barriers Employing QbD-Driven Nanostructured Drug Delivery Strategies”. Over 600 faculty members, scientists and researchers from life sciences and pharmaceutical sciences attended the 90-minutes oration lecture and award ceremony.
The award has been endowed under the aegis of Sardar Jaswant Singh Rai Memorial Trust at GNDU. The earlier awardees include Prof. B.S Ahloowalia, IAEA, Vienna (Austria); Prof P N Tandon, National Brain Research Centre, Gurgaon; Dr. K.V. Subba Rao, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi; and Prof. Arun Kumar, IISc, Bengaluru.
This Award is a sequel to numerous other National & Global awards & accolades recently conferred on Professor Bhoop like, Pharma QbD Excellence Award 2012 (CPhI-Asia), AAPS Product Performance Award 2012 & 2013 (USA), Outstanding Scientist Award 2014 (SelectBio, UK), StatEase QbD Performance Award 2014 (USA), APTI Best Pharmacy Teacher Award 2014, Eudragit Award 2014 (Evonik, Germany), Scientist Par Excellence Award 2015 by Minitab (UK), and many more.
Earlier, this year in February 2015, Professor Bhoop also delivered an Award oration on “QbD-Driven Development of Lipid-based Nanostructured Systems with Improved Biopharmaceutical Attributes” at ICT, Mumbai, as a part of Professor M. R. Baichwal Visiting Fellow Award.
Professor Bhoop has to his credit 245 publications in peer-reviewed journals along with 12 books and 48 book chapters with H-index of 29. He has been instrumental in filing four patents and tech. transfer of two nanostructured drug delivery technologies to the industry. Also he has duly trained over a thousand of industrial scientists under his guidance through deliberations at various onsite industrial training seminars & workshops, conferences and scientific forums. He has handled 15 research projects and guided/guiding 24 Ph.D.’s, three post-doctorates and over 53 M.Pharm. scholars.
Besides being the Chairman of University Institute of Pharm Sciences, Professor Bhoop has also been serving as the Founder Coordinator of Interdisciplinary UGC Centre for Excellence in Nano Applications (Biomedical Sciences). He has also been serving as the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2011-13), Dean Alumni Relations (2007-2011), and University Fellow (2012-16), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
