The ninth national conference of the Society of Indian Radiographers will be held in Hyderabad from December 14 to 16 at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium. Dr C Ganguly, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nuclear Fuel Complex, will inaugurate the conference on Saturday.

About 800 delegates, including radiologists, nuclear medicine doctors, radiotherapists, physicists, radiographers, imaging technologists, dark room assistants, nuclear medicine technologists and radiation oncology technologists from all parts of the country will attend the conference.

The conference is being organised by Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Society of Indian Radiographers (AP branch), Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (AP branch) and Kakarla Subba Rao Radiology and Imaging Educational Sciences Trust (KREST).

Announcing the programme, chairman of the organizing committee K Narasappa and organizing secretary V P Tirupathi Rao said this was the first time that a national conference of radiographers was being held in Hyderabad.

Speaking to newsmen, Dr Kakarla Subba Rao, chief patron of the conference and Director of NIMS, said that in diagnosing a complicated disease, the skill of a radiograspher / technologist was very crucial. When the disease is in initial stages, doctors depend mostly on the results of tests like X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI and so on. Therefore, the accuracy in the test results was more important." Here comes the vital role of the technologists who have to work with machines carrying radio activity," Dr Subba Rao said.

As part of the conference, a scientific session and an exhibition on the latest techniques and inventions in radiology, imaging technologies and nuclear medicine would be conducted. The host of sub-themes of the conference includes quality assurance, radiation safety and health physics, role of interventional radiology in treatment and the problems confronting the personnel.
