RaySearch Laboratories AB, a medical technology company, has treated its first patient at the First Hospital of China Medical University in Liaoning, China with a treatment plan created with its treatment planning system RayStation. The patient was treated for nasopharynx cancer using intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and the treatment was delivered by an Elekta Synergy linear accelerator.
“RayStation is a fast and efficient treatment planning system. The interface of RayStation is intuitive and straightforward, which makes the system very user-friendly. It has a range of tools that allows us to fully leverage the 4D data we generate with our CT-on-rails to perform deformable registration and dose tracking in a highly efficient manner. We also use the tool for multi-criteria optimization to reduce the dose to the surrounding organs at risk and protect the patient better,” says Xia Bin, chief medical physicist of The First Hospital of China Medical University.
“We received regulatory approval for RayStation on the Chinese market in July and it is very pleasing that the system has already been used to treat patients. China represents a large growth opportunity for RaySearch and we have already received several orders so we are off to a very good start together with our distributor Kang Li Da”, says Johan Löf, CEO of RaySearch.”
RayStation integrates all RaySearch’s advanced treatment planning solutions into a flexible treatment planning system. It combines unique features such as multi-criteria optimization tools with full support for 4D adaptive radiation therapy. It also includes functionality such as RaySearch’s market-leading algorithms for IMRT and VMAT optimization and highly accurate dose engines for photon, electron and proton therapy. The system is built on the latest software architecture and has a graphical user interface offering state-of-the-art usability.
