Reliance Industries setting up new facility in Hurkisondas Nurrotumdas Hospital

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is setting up a world-class new hospital facility in Sir Hurkisondas Nurrotumdas Hospital (HNH) to provide quality healthcare for the common man in the city of Mumbai. Earlier, the company has set up Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Lodhivali in District Raigad in Maharashtra.

While addressing the 36th Annual General Meeting of shareholders, Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, told that this new facility fully is integrated with technology and high-quality diagnostics is expected to be functional within the next two years.

Ambani announced that RIL has launched Reliance Foundation and it is developing a world-class university. He said, "India needs innumerable institutions of higher learning and research in order to compete globally based on knowledge and innovation. The university is envisaged to be broad-based in its course offering, ranging from pure and applied sciences to fine and performing arts, and international in its faculty and student profile. Like other business initiatives of RIL, the University is also guided by a transformational ambition - that of enabling Indian students to study in a world-class University in India, and also of attracting the best of foreign students to study here".

The Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation joined the management of HNH in December 1997 with commitment to restore the hospital to its erstwhile glory by re-structuring the hospital services and setting up state-of -the-art technology in the field of healthcare that will conform to international standards. HNH offer tertiary level healthcare facilities that include cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, neurology and neuro-surgery, oncology, urology, nephrology, paediatric and neonatal surgery and other services. At present, over 258 consultants in various areas of specialization drive and manage the activities. They are assisted by a staff of over 1,000, including paramedical and other support. The Research centre also provides free and subsidised out-patient and in-patient treatment to the needy.

HNH offers postgraduate qualifications in various specializations awarded by the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS) and Diploma of the National Board. It offers M.Sc, Ph.D programmes and also runs a nursing school.
