Ray Laboratories (RL) Fine Chemicals, a leading active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing company in Karnataka has scheduled an investment of Rs.25 crore as part of a Greenfield and Brownfield initiative.
The funds are sourced through banks. The company has commenced the Brownfield expansion for a new range of products in the area of cardiovascular and antibiotics at its facility in Yelahanka, Bangalore. The company has been known for its neuropsychiatry APIs but is now diversifying on large scale for production of APIs in other therapy areas.
The company is the largest manufacturer of amitriptyline hydrochloride in the world. The other bulk drugs in the range of psychotropics are butriptyline hydrochloride, chlorpromazine hydrochloride, citalopram, and clomipramine hydrochloride to name a few. It also manufactures APIs used in muscle relaxants, antihistamines, antispasmodics, vasodilators, anti diarrhoeas etc, Anjan Roy, managing director, RL Fine Chem told Pharmabiz.
As part of the Greenfield project, the company has acquired 10 acres of land at Dobspet to commence production of new range of APIs.
For the last two and half decades, the company has been known for its psychotropic bulk drugs. It has entered into several long-term partnerships with multinational companies for supply of its range of anti-psychotropic products. The major playeRs.in the segment are Lundbeck, Novartis, Roche, Abbot, and Pfizer who have a wide range of formulations. Its exports are to Europe, Latin America, Japan, North America and Canada. It also cateRs.to the needs of the emerging markets. The company has received DMF for four products and has applied for Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for another two products.
“The global market opportunities have led us to look at new products and we have the research expertise and production bandwidth to undertake additional drugs”, he said.
Majority of the products are for customeRs.in Europe, Latin America, Japan, North America and Canada. The company is known for its expertise in Green Chemistry, Sodamide Reaction, High Pressure Catalytic Hydrogenation, Alkylation/Etherification-O &N, Sodium Borohydride Reductions, Cyclizations Aminations and Haloginations.
