RSF organises symposium on immunothepapeutics, disease management

The X11th Annual Symposium of Ranbaxy Science Foundation (RSF) on immunotherapeutics and disease management and RSF Research Award distribution ceremony was held here on November 28, 2005. Nobel Laureate Prof. Rolf M. Zinkernagel, director, Institute of Experimental Immunology, University of Zurich, Switzerland was the chief guest for both the functions. Prof Zinkernagel spoke on "Why do we not have a vaccine against TB or HIV" during the symposium, and delivered a public address on whether science should matter to the public during the award distribution ceremony.

The symposium was an attempt to understand the newer areas of research in the field of immunology. The symposium focused on the development of novel immunotherapeutics to prevent, control and treat chronic infectious diseases, inflammatory disorders, auto immune diseases, allergic disorders, HIV/AIDS and even cancer.

RSF annual research awards for year 2004 went to seven scientists namely Dr Bharat B. Aggarwal and Dr Amitabha Mukhopadhayay (basic research), Dr Mohan K. Raizada (medical research), Dr Nita Bhandari and Dr Vinod Kochupillai (clinical research), Dr B Gopalan and Dr Asit K Chakraborti (pharmaceutical sciences).

The Ranbaxy Science Foundation (RSF), established by Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited in May 1994, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
