Sankara Eye Foundation-India under the aegis of the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Medical Trust has been recognized with the Global Performance Excellence Award (GPEA) for the year 2015 in the healthcare sector.
The Foundation is the only Indian hospital to have ever won the Global Performance Excellence Award in the highest category, which is recognized as a world class award.
“We have been synonymous with quality eye care and we are proud to be the only healthcare organisation to receive the award from India” said Dr R V Ramani, founder& managing trustee- Sankara Eye Foundation- India.
The Global Performance Excellence Award is the only formal international recognition of performance/business excellence. Since 2000, 171 organisations have received the various categories of this award. The award uses the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence (MBPE) criteria.
The award was received by Dr. Kaushik Murali, president, medical administration, quality and education, Sankara Eye Hospital in the presence of Madame Tang Xiaofen, president, Shanghai Association for Quality and Charles A. Aubrey II, PhD, Asia Pacific Quality Organisation / Global Performance Excellence Awards chairman, USA at the Shanghai International Convention Centre.
Recipients included individuals and organisations from USA, Mexico, Philippines, China, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Srilanka and India. Winners were evaluated on leadership focus on quality, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement analysis and knowledge management, workforce and operation focus on quality, and the qualitative outcomes of the organisation.
Sankara has a chain of 13 eye hospitals comprising a team of 200 doctors, 600 paramedical professionals, 275 support staff and total bed strength of 1800. It has treated and performed more than 1.3 million free eye care surgeries and every day about 500 eye care surgeries are performed.
