Schematic Engineering Industries, a Hyderabad-based manufacturer of rigid containment system equipment for pharmaceutical, chemicals and food industries, has acquired the Bengaluru facility of UK based ONFAB Ltd.  The objective is to expand its product line from rigid to flexible containment systems. No details of acquisition amount were disclosed.

The seven year-old Schematic Engineering Industries which also has a facility in Mumbai is known for its Rigid (SS) containment (Barrier Isolators) equipment manufacturing. It has main focus on closed and contained handling of pharmaceutical powder to enhance safety of the operator and the plant, productivity and cleanliness.  It has a 15,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Hyderabad with branches in Mumbai and Bangalore.

At a press conference,  Shreepad Hegde, managing director,  Schematic Engineering Industry said that ONFAB, factory in Bengaluru is known for its design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of flexible containment systems which have a proven variety of application including clean rooms, laboratories, glove boxes, sterile suits and units used specially for testing and validation. Now the ONFAB facility is acquired by Schematic.

“The takeover has enabled to create synergy products and marketing efforts. Together with Rigid and Flexible containment, Schematic can now offer entire line of Isolators for High Potent Drug industry in India, he added.

Large number of pharmaceutical companies have started manufacturing High Potent Drugs in India like anti-cancer drugs, hormones, cytotoxic drugs etc. A market survey conducted by Schematic Industries indicated that the industry is on a growth path and in every three years capacity is getting doubled . There are more than 5 new plants coming up every year in India and almost every manufacturer is expanding. Most of these high potent drugs are exported to Europe and US markets. The equipment manufacturer needs to gear up for such exponential growth to support the pharmaceutical producers, he said.

“With a changed  strategy, ONFAB had decided to focus more on European market. Hence ONFAB India decided to sell its flexible isolator manufacturing facility in Bengaluru said O.A. Nulty, director, ONFAB Containment Solutions India Pvt Ltd.

Currently, Schematic manufactures rigid containment technology product and it has plans to double its revenue in next two years with the acquisition of flexible containment technology products. Further company plans to invest extensively in flexible containment technology along with support systems and controlled environment technology, said Hegde.
