Scientific meet with focus on recent advances in pharmaceutical sciences and technology planned
The fifth international scientific meet is planned by B. V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education & Research Development (PERD) Centre at Mumbai from February 1-3, 2003. Co-sponsored by IDMA and OPPI, this meet is designed to bring scientists, technocrats, clinicians, pharma business leaders, academicians and students under one umbrella.
The meeting is steered to provide an ideal environment to facilitate collaborations, strategic alliances and new ventures. Deliberation of the event will cover recent advances in pharmaceutical sciences and technology, basic and allied sciences, Biotechnology and Natural products pertaining to designing and discovery of new drug molecule, development of novel drug carriers and drug delivery system. Around 50 subject experts from world over will participate in this event and deliver the plenary lectures.
Preceding this event there will be three pre-symposium programmes:
1. Workshop on Genomics Proteomics and Bioinformatics:
Date: January 31, 2003
Venue: SciTech Centre, Jogeshwari, Mumbai
This one day workshop will be coordinated by Prof. P. M. Bhargava. The workshop includes plenary lectures on cutting edge technologies like stem cell research, humanised monoclonal antibodies as therapeutic agent, bioinformatics, toxicogenomics. Leading national and international Scientists from the field will participate in the event and will share their knowledge and experience.

2. Workshop on Site Specific Drug Delivery:
Date: January 31, 2003
Venue: SciTech Centre, Jogeshwari, Mumbai
The workshop is designed to encourage one to one discussion between faculty members and participants. Recent advances in site specific drug delivery have added new dimension to the therapy, colon, ocular, pulmonary, and tumor specific drug delivery are some of the topic of deliberation in the workshop. Prof. HL Bhalla will coordinate the workshop.
3. Three Day Course On Drug Discovery:
Date: January 29 - 31, 2003
Venue: SciTech Centre, Jogeshwari, Mumbai
The three day comprehensive course has been designed on the pattern of summer schools in developed countries and will be coordinated by Prof. David Triggle from SUNY, USA, and 12 eminent scientists from India and world over will deliver plenary lecture on various aspects of drug discovery.
