The nominations received in Pharmexcil office from its members for contesting for various categories of Committee of Administration (COA) has been examined and scrutinised by the returning officer Kuppurajan (DGFT, Hyderabad).
The elections to the first COA of the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (PHARMEXCIL) will be held for 16 seats. The COA is to have 16 members drawn from categories like SSIs (4 seats), non-SSIs (4), status holders (4), merchant exporters (1), ayurveda (1), CROs and Biotechnology (1) and others (1).
Those candidates whose nominations have been accepted for SSIs category include—Ramesh Shah (Cyano Pharma, Indore), C Kalichelvan (Anjan Drug Pvt Ltd), Rajiv Ramu Deora (Amphray Laboratories), Vishal Jajodia (Alcon Bio Sciences), Lalit Kumar Jain (Pharmchem), Jayant Tagore (Senor Organics), Rajendra Kumar R Shah (Mercury Labs), Paresh Mehta Kirtilal (Intermed) and SV Veeraamani (Fourrts India Laboratories). Nominations accepted for the category Non-SSIs include DB Mody (Unichem), K Subba Rao (Glochem Industries, Hyderabad), K Nitayananda Reddy (Aurobindo Pharma) and Arun K Sawhney (Dr Reddy's Laboratories). Nominations accepted for the category Status Holders are Mahesh H Doshi (Dy-Mach Pharma), B K Gupta (Medicamen Biotech), Sunil Parekh (Cadila Healthcare), Ramesh Arora (Kwality Pharmaceuticals), Smitesh C Shah (Calyx Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals). Nominations for Merchant Exporter accepted are Sunil Goenka (Siddharth International) and Vishal Jajodia (Euroseian).
Though Vidyut Shah’s (VS International Pvt Ltd) nomination was accepted for the category of Merchant Exporter as per the Pharmexcil announcement on September 6, 2005, he has chosen to withdraw his nomination, sources at Pharmexcil said. It is the only nomination that has been withdrawn among the entire nominations accepted by the Council.
Nominations accepted for Ayurvedic, Homeopathy, Herbal and Unani accepted includes Dr Ram H Shroff (Charak Pharma), for CROs and Biotechnology includes Venkat Jasti (Suven Life Sciences) and for category 'others' include NSN Bhargav (Indian Immunologicals Ltd, Hyderabad). Since the nominations accepted for the categories Non-SSIs, Ayurveda, R& D, CROs and Biotechnology, and 'Others' fill the seats to the exact number, the candidates will be considered unanimously elected.
Out of the 1400 members enrolled with Pharmexcil, only about 120 members have been found eligible for voting, who fulfilled the criteria of ordinary members and a final number of members eligible for voting will be known by September 28, 2005, Dr PV Appaji, executive director of the Council, told Pharmabiz.
It may be noted that all the ordinary members of the Council are eligible to vote. In order to be eligible for an ordinary membership of the Council, the person must satisfy the following requirements either clauses “a & c” OR “b & c”. As per clause— a) any person (or the entity represented by him / her) who has been an ordinary member of any Export Promotion Council dealing with Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, b) any person (or the entity represented by him / her) who has been an associate member of any Export Promotion Council dealing with Drugs and Pharmaceuticals for a period of less than three years immediately preceding the formation of Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council, on the completion of remaining period of three years as an associate member of Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council. As per clause— c) He / She (or the entity represented by him / her) must have to his / her or its credit during the three financial years immediately preceding, average exports in respect of the product of not less than Rs 10 lakhs for Small Scale Industries and Rs 25 lakhs for those in the ‘Others category’.
The last date for forwarding the ballot papers to members has been scheduled as September 13, 2005, last date for receipt of ballot papers is September 29, 2005, and counting of votes and announcement of results is September 30, 2005.
