In a joint operation, SevenHills Hospital, the Association of Gynecologic Oncologists of India (AGOI) and Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES) recently conducted master class video workshop on minimal access surgery in oncology, covering the entire spectrum of laparoscopy in oncology.

The topics discussed during this session were laparoscopic surgery in gynecologic oncology, laparoscopic uro-oncology, laparoscopic surgery in thoracic oncology and laparoscopic GI oncology. The CME, under the theme ‘standardising and improvising the technique of laparoscopy in oncosurgery’, was conducted in the presence of national faculty and experts in the field of minimal invasive surgery from New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmadabad and Pune.

The programme was headed by Dr Nagendra Parvataneni, advanced laparoscopic and oncoplastic surgeon, SevenHills Hospital and was supported by Dr Chitwan Dubey, consultant gynaecologist and Dr Avanish Arora, consultant in urology from SevenHills Hospital.

Dr Nagendra Parvataneni said, “Laparoscopy is rapidly evolving and newer techniques are being constantly introduced. Laparoscopic surgery is one of the most significant technique for minimally invasive surgery. Notable advances in the technology have greatly improved the evaluation and treatment of cancer patients too.”

In the last 6 months, SevenHills hospital has treated close to 180 patients using advanced laparoscopic procedures. Laparoscopy is an innovative surgical technique performed in the body through small incisions (0.5–1.5cm) with the aid of a camera and can be used either to inspect and diagnose a condition or to perform minimally invasive surgery (MIS) as opposed to the larger slits needed in a traditional surgery.
