Shasun launches methacrylic acid co-polymer dispersion

Shasun Chemicals and Drugs Limited has launched Shacryl-30 D (Methacrylic Acid Co-Polymer Dispersion) in Hyderabad, according to a press communiqué from the company. The product is being distributed by Sree Balaha Chemical Agencies Pvt. Ltd.

Shacryl-30 D (equivalent of Eastacryl-30D) is a product manufactured and marketed by Shasun under technology license from Eastman Chemical Company-USA. Shacryl-30D finds applications for enteric coating of tablets, pellets and granules; to mask unpleasant taste and odour of certain dosage forms; for insulating hygroscopic cores; and for isolation of incompatible ingredients.

A customer meet was arranged by Sree Balaha, and during the launch, Dr. Devendra, Managing Director, of Shasun Chemicals explained the strategy on the diversification into the excipients and also thanked the customers for the support extended for HPMCP (hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose Phthalate) an enteric coated excipient, which was launched a year back and for which the company's facility has been successfully expanded due to the enhanced requirements.

Harish Davey, Managing Director & Director New Business Development, Eastman Chemical Ltd., India who strategized the deal of HPMCP and Shacryl 30 D was also present during the meet. Davey expressed Eastman's interest in leveraging specialized technologies in India, in the form of technology licensing., tolling, sales etc. He also praised the team of Shasun for their capability in absorbing the technologies transferred to them and envisaged bigger partnerships.

Earlier, Shasun had licensed HPMCP excipient technology from Eastman Chemical Company and in less than a year's operations, the company went in for a third expansion of capacity.
