Shilpa Medicare bags first prize under pharma category of National Energy Conservation Award 2012

Karnataka’s Shilpa Medicare Limited has bagged the National Energy Conservation Award 2012. The company went on to win the first prize under the pharmaceutical industry category.

In an effort to step up the energy conservation initiatives, Ministry of Power had instituted the National Energy Conservation Award which is given on National Energy Conservation Day observed annually on December 14. Shilpa Medicare’s managing director Vishnukant Bhutada received the award from the President of India Pranab Mukerjee in the presence of the Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The two-and-a-half decade old Shilpa Medicare won the award for its energy conservation efforts at its state-of-the-art facility in Raichur, located in north Karnataka. “Our manufacturing unit at Raichur was commissioned in 2009. It is designed to not just comply with current regulatory requirements but has adopted latest available technologies, processes and equipment that uses less fuel and conserves energy”, stated Bhutada.

The company has been engaged in the production of a range of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), of niche oncology therapeutic categories adopting advanced technology processes and adhering to international specifications. Its turnover ending March 2012 was Rs.300 crore.
