Siemens Ltd's Medical Solutions Division has installed India's first integrated 'biograph' PET/CT scanner with EclipseT Medical Cyclotron at Apollo Gleneagles PET/CT Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad. This integrated system consists of the world's first multi-modality imaging system, the biograph Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scanner and EclipseT, the world's leading Medical Cyclotron, a release said.

This molecular imaging set-up sets new benchmarks in early detection of cancer. The integrated system enables viewing of the minutest details of anatomical and functional processes in a single, non-invasive diagnostic procedure. It also enables quick diagnosis due to a shortest-ever scanning time of 15 minutes, which aids the effective treatment planning, especially in the fight against cancer and cardiac diseases.

Siemens biograph is a powerful combination of world-proven LSO PET technology and 16-slice CT scanner that allows the scanning of anatomical and functional processes at a molecular level. This is very important during diagnosis in specialties such as: Oncology, Cardiology and Neurology.

According to D Ragavan, executive vice president, Medical Solutions Division, Siemens Ltd, "It is extremely crucial to detect cancer, cardiac diseases or neurological disorders at early stages. With industry's shortest scan time coupled with highest resolution, our biograph offers unprecedented levels of diagnostic accuracy and certainty for early detection and effective patient treatment."

Siemens biograph employs the proprietary HI-REZ LSO technology that delivers exceptional image quality in the shortest scanning time possible today - with whole-body scans requiring less than 15 minutes. The HI-REZ provides more than 250 per cent improvement in volumetric image resolution. In addition, LSO technology brings significant advantages to high-throughput and three-dimensional (3D) image acquisition. The Pico-3D capability provides ultra-fast detector electronics that substantially improve image quality, with up to 70 per cent better count rate performance. Pico-3D technology also optimises the signal-to-noise ratio and lesion detectability, as well as offering significant benefits in scanning flexibility across all doses and patient sizes.
