Siemens to provide innovative imaging & IT solutions to Medanta in Gurgaon
Siemens Healthcare has entered into one of the largest technology partnerships in India to provide innovative imaging & IT solutions to Medanta-The Medicity, an upcoming 1,250 bed multi-super specialty healthcare institute in Gurgaon. With this endeavour, Medanta will be the first institute to deploy a range of first-of-its-kind technologies while providing care at an affordable cost.
Siemens Healthcare has received one of the largest contracts in the private healthcare industry in India from Medanta-The Medicity. Founded by eminent cardiac surgeon, Dr Naresh Trehan, Medanta is one of India's largest multi-super specialty institutes, with the guiding principles of providing affordable medical services to patients with care, compassion and commitment. Spread across 43 acres, Medanta includes a research center, medical and nursing school and will have over 1,250 beds, 300 critical care beds and 45 operation theatres catering to over 20 specialties.
Siemens Healthcare is proud to be associated with Medanta and is committed to support Dr Trehan in his vision of providing the highest standard of medical care to India. At Medanta, in addition to installing hi-end imaging products recently introduced in India, Siemens will also launch a range of products for the first time in India. This includes Somatom Definition Flash CT scanner, Artis Zeego cathlab, Acuson SC2000 ultrasound system and Biograph mCT, a PET.CT scanner.
D Ragavan, Sector CEO for Healthcare, South Asia Cluster, Siemens Ltd informs, "Siemens shares a strong relationship with Dr Trehan and with this collaboration, we have strengthened our partnership further. Dr Trehan's ambition is to build Medanta-The Medicity as one of the topmost facilities in this part of the globe. To realize this vision he needs the world's best technologies and we are installing our latest and top of the line technologies in Medanta, which will help the clinicians and the patients."
Dr Naresh Trehan, chairman & managing director, Medanta-The Medicity said, "It is my vision to build an institute in India, which matches the highest standards of healthcare delivery across the world. At Medanta, technology and innovation will be the key drivers for providing high-end services and at the same time keeping patient cost low, so I welcome our partnership with Siemens."
With the Somatom Definition Flash, Medanta-The Medicity is introducing a CT scanner in India that will set new standards regarding speed and dose reduction. Its fastest scanning speed in CT enables for example complete scans of the entire chest region in just 0.6 seconds. Thus, patients are no longer required to hold their breath during the exam the way they had in the past. At the same time, the Somatom Definition Flash operates at an extremely reduced radiation dose. For example, a spiral heart scan can be performed with less than one millisievert (mSv), whereas the average effective dose required for this purpose usually ranges from 8 mSv to 40 mSv.
The new Artis zeego angiography system introduces unprecedented flexibility in catheter labs and operating rooms. The industrial robot technology integrated in Artis zeego allows the physician to move the C-arm to almost any position around the patient. Acuson SC2000 is an ultrasound system, which introduces a technology called 'Echo in a Heart Beat' for the first time in India, which delivers full-volume images of the heart with every heartbeat. Siemens will also install Biograph mCT, the world's first molecular CT that allows high definition PET.CT imaging and patient comfort, while scanning in shortest possible time.
Siemens is the flagship listed company in India. Siemens in India, which comprises 20 legal entities, is a leading provider of industry and infrastructure solutions with a business volume aggregating about Rs 11,800 crore, as on September 2008.
