Sinhgad College of Pharmacy organizes 3-day seminar on ‘Structural elucidation of organic compounds’

Sinhgad College of Pharmacy organized a 3-day seminar on ‘Structural elucidation of organic compounds’ from 18 to 20 January 2011 to achieve the goal of generating interest in spectroscopy.

The Chief Guest Dr P. S. Kalsi, Emeritus Professor Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana inaugurated the seminar. Guest of Honour Sanjay Diwanji, general manager - Business, Lab India Analytical Instruments Pvt. Ltd., Dr K. S. Jain, Principal of Sinhgad College of Pharmacy, Dr K. N. Gujar and other distinguished guests and delegates were present in the 3-day seminar. Dr P. S. Kalsi and Sanjay Diwanji emphasized on the relevance of the seminar.
 
Dr P. S. Kalsi gave liberal notes on theory and applications of Infrared spectroscopy (IR), which was followed by a short presentation on Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) by S. R. Tambe Professor, MGV College of Pharmacy, Malegaon.

Dr M. R. Yadav, Head of Department of Pharmacy, MS University, Baroda provided “An Insight into Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy, (NMR)”. Dr M. G. Kulkarni, Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, University of Pune gave a clear idea of 13C NMR Spectroscopy in a simple manner and Dr P. R. Rajmohnan, Head - NMR facility, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune explained 2D NMR Spectroscopy in detail and a short talk on basic theory & instrumentation of Mass Spectrometry by S. V. Londhe, Professor, Sinhgad College of Pharmacy

Dr K. S. Jain, principal and professor, Sinhgad College of Pharmacy, Pune highlighted the details of fragmentation patterns and their interpretations in Mass Spectrometry which was followed by short session on applications of Mass Spectroscopy in Structural Elucidation by Dr S. B. Wagh, principal and professor, NDMVP’s College of Pharmacy, Nasik and an interactive session on hands-on problem solving based on UV, IR, NMR by Nazma Inamdar, Professor, Allana College of Pharmacy, Pune.

Dr K. S. Jain, principal and professor and Chief-convener, Sinhgad College of Pharmacy, Prof. R. R. Kulkarni Convener, Prof. S. V. Londhe and Prof. S.V. Mulgund thanked two hundred delegates who attended this event.
