SMH Curie Cancer Center achieves a milestone in patient care

SMH Curie Cancer Center (SMH CCC), a unit of HCG - South Asia's largest cancer care network, announced successful treatment of 500th patient using Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) with Mega-Voltage Cone Beam CT (MVCBCT) based linear accelerator. With this SMH CCC has not only showcased its superior treatment capabilities in the NCR region but also demonstrated how technology could help cancer patients lead a better quality of life. Also SMH CCC announced the induction of renowned oncologists Dr Sunil Kr Gupta and Dr Loraine Kalra into its fold.

Commenting on SMH CCC, Dr B S Ajai Kumar, chairman, HCG, said, "It is gratifying to note that SMH CCC has emerged as the preferred oncology care centre in the NCR region. True to our business model, we had the conviction to bring latest technology and also pegged treatment cost at affordable levels. Our vision is to make cancer treatment accessible to all segments of the society within easy reach of their location."

According to Dr Munish Gairola, consultant radiation oncologist, SMH CCC, "We have achieved a milestone of treating 500 patients and look forward to providing advanced therapy options to patients residing not only in the NCR region but across the northern region." Also he said we are keen to leverage the synergy of being part of a major network by referring patients to HCG's CyberKnife Center thereby ensuring integrated comprehensive treatment is made available to patients under one umbrella.

Dr Ajai added by roping in the senior medical oncologist and surgical oncologist, SMH CCC has further strengthened the core team lead by Dr Munish Gairola. Welcoming Dr Sunil Kr Gupta and Dr Loraine Kalra into the HCG fold, Dr Munish said, entry of specialists like them would enhance the stature of SMH CCC.

Dr Sunil Kr Gupta, a well-renowned haemato-medical oncologist, joins SMH CCC as its director -Medical Oncology. Likewise, Dr Loraine Kalra joins SMH CCC as its director - Female Oncology.

A joint venture between HCG and Shanti Mukand Hospital, SMH CCC was established in October 2007. This premier oncology care center is one of the dedicated 'Centers of Excellence' of HCG and a major hub in north India offering comprehensive medical resources with multi disciplinary team under one roof.
