SNA Oushadhasala to set up 100-bedded Ayurveda hospital

SNA Oushadhasala Pvt. Ltd, one of the most renowned traditional Ayurvedic treatment centres and drug manufacturer in Kerala, is planning to set up a 100-bedded modern Ayurvedic hospital at an investment of Rs 3 crore.

The first phase of the SNA Ayurveda Nursing Home, likely to take off within the next 18 months, will come up at a five-acre plot next to the SNA headquarters in Thrissur. The first phase will have 50 beds and six cottages in four floors with all the eight specialties in Ayurveda, Alathiyoor Jayakrishnan Nambi, marketing manager, SNA Oushadhasala, told Pharmabiz.

At present, SNA has a 20-bedded Ayurvedic hospital with modern facilities adjacent to the manufacturing unit, which makes more than 400 formulations and 80-patented drugs, distributed through a dealership of 200 odd agencies in Kerala and other states. Recently, SNA modernized and expanded the manufacturing facilities at an investment of Rs 80 lakhs.

SNA has embarked on a major project to promote Ayurveda in overseas countries. SNA has a tie up with the Ayurvedic Point of Milan, Italy to give practical training for the Panchakarma students in Italy. Run by a neurologist Dr. Antoneo Moranteo, Ayurvedic Point, started two years ago, has completed two semesters of the three-year panchakarma course. At the end of each semester of one year, the batch comes to SNA for one month practical training. Two batches of about 50 students came to SNA so far. The study materials for the course were designed by SNA, in accordance to the syllabus of the SNA's Panchakarma Training Institute for Ayurvedic physicians and paramedics, Jayakrishnan Nambi added.

Soon SNA will conduct a one-month seminar and study classes at Estonia, Russia, to popularize Ayurveda in that country. SNA's chief physician and chairman Alathiyur Narayanan Nambi has treated numerous patients in Holland, Germany, USA and many other European countries, during his 10-year stay abroad as part of the efforts of Maharshi Mahesh Yogi movement.

SNA is also in talks with some of the leading corporate hospitals in Bangalore and Mumbai to establish Ayurvedic centers. A similar centre is functioning at the co-operative Hospital, Kochi.

Another plan of SNA is to set up a 5000 sq.ft. International standard library of rare Ayurvedic books at the headquarters within a year.

Ashtavaidyan Thrissur Thaikkat Unni Moooss, belonging to the Ashtavaidya family which is considered to be the authorities in Ayurvedic Systems of Medicine in Kerala and the descendents of Vagbhatacharya, set up the Rs 3.5 crore SNA Oushadhasala, in 1920.
