The Sree Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute - Deemed University (SRMC & RI -DU) is organizing an international conference on Ramachandra Advanced Interventional Neuroradiology (RAIN -2003), from November 28 to 30, 2003.

Conducted at the convocation hall of SRMC, the event is being organised as part of completing 150 neurointerventions after the commissioning of new 3D rotational digital subtraction angiographic facility and relevant infrastructure facilities at the Department of Radiology & Imaging Sciences of SRMC, according to Dr.Santhosh Joseph, Organizing Secretary of RAIN 2003.

He said the conference would have participation of 250 to 300 delegates from all over India and neighboring countries comprising of radiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and technologists. The guest faculties include Dr.Emmanuel Houdart and Dr.Rene Chapot from Hospital Lariboisiere, Paris, one of the pioneering institutions of neurointerventions in the world. Besides being authorities in spinal vascular interventions, they would deal with the entire gamut of neurointerventions including pre-procedure workup, optimization of technique, post-procedure care and long term results, from a different perspective. Another expert, Prof. Klaus Mathias from Germany, a world authority in carotid angioplasty and stenting would deal with various issues related to extracranial carotid vascular disease, said Dr.Santhosh Joseph.

The conference would cover several basic teaching modules to introduce interventional neuroradiology to beginners and postgraduates, as well as advanced intricate techniques for the practicing interventionist. Facilities would be made available for presenting interesting case studies or reports. Live demonstration of case studies would also enhance better understanding of the disease process, said Dr.Santosh Joseph.

He said neurointernventions were started two decades ago in the country, and many hospitals practice it in its finest form. But many others could not do so due to limitation in equipment, availability of devices, manpower etc., and that was the main reason for organizing RAIN 2003, said Dr.Santosh Joseph.
