Stem Cell Conference to be held during Medifest'08 on December 6

Stem Cell Conference is being organized by Stem Cell Voice of India in association with Medifest on December 6, 2008 at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The conference will have experts from India's major institutions like AIIMS, ICMR, Sri Ganga Ram Hospital who will present lectures on various aspects of stem cells.

Medifest'08 is a premier medical & healthcare trade event offering a significant mileage to healthcare industry. Around 60-70 companies are exhibiting from around the world including USA, Canada, Germany, India, Poland, China, Korea, Taiwan etc which provide global overview and comprehensive information on the current developments done in the industry. The key features of the expo include Seminar & Conferences organized on the most upcoming issues in the industry ie Infection Control, Stem Cell Therapy, Hospital Accreditation, & Medical tourism.

The aim of the Stem cell conference goes along the goal of Stem Cell Voice of India, founded by Karan Goel, a patient of Retinitis Pigmentosa, with a vision to bring awareness and to improve scientific understanding in Stem Cell field. The conference will involve presentation on regulatory issues by to deal with concerns of SCVI like Patient abuse, as there are no laws existing in this field. Other lectures include the discussion on the Hype Vs Hope and various challenges & opportunities involved in stem cell sector along with the clinical potential or therapeutic aspects of stem cells, especially for critical Limb Ischemia, Retinal Degeneration etc, with a view to find cure for the incurable diseases.

Stem Cell research can help treat dreadful diseases like cancer, cardiac & nervous disease. At present, in India, various government institutions besides the department of Biotechnology, Science and Technology and CSIR are involved in the research. Currently, over 30 institutions & hospitals are engaged in stem cell work and the Indian government had in the last three years invested $8 million on research activities in this field.

SCVI is also exhibiting in the Medifest with its objective to reach out the masses & spread awareness among them about the stem cell technology.
