Life sciences informatics company, Strand Genomics, has received the Frost and Sullivan’s prestigious Excellence in Technology award in the field of bioinformatics for the year 2005. The award is primarily for the ‘avadis’ technology, Strand’s comprehensive data mining platform.

The avadis data-mining platform is widely deployed in verticals like gene expression, pre-clinical, chemistry, healthcare at various pharmaceuticals and biotechnology companies and research institutions. The avadis technology development has received research funding awarded by NMITLI/CSIR and DBT/DST, programmes of the Government of India. The criteria for Frost & Sullivan’s Excellence in Technology Award are based on a company’s pioneering development and introduction of an innovative technology into the market.

Sources said Avadis combines powerful analytical algorithms with interactive visualization to derive valuable insights from the data. It is now highly configurable and extensible in that it can be customized to any data mining application by modification of configuration settings. " Strand's platform was recognized on the merits of its easy usability and visual based which allows even non-experts to access its full potential," said Katherine Austin, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan.

"This prestigious award validates the drive for innovation by the Strand team. The avadis technology that is currently being appreciated by the global market is constructed on a platform of one million lines of code that represents a new paradigm in data mining,” said Dr. Vijay Chandru, CEO, Strand Genomics. "The award comes at the right time as we launch our next generation avadis platform, version 4. Version 4 of avadis is extremely user friendly and sets a new standard for ease-of-use. We are confident that avadis’ market penetration will go up rapidly with the release of this new version, he added.
