A student from Symogen, which is imparting certificate course on pharmacovigilance, has been awarded a scholarship and her work has been chosen for presentation at the international conference in pharmacoepidemiology in Denmark in August.

The International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) has accepted the abstract on "Fixed Dose Combinations and Call for Effective Pharmacovigilance System in Action in India" by Deepa Alimchandani to be presented at the 24th International Conference in Pharmacoepidemiology & Therapeutic Risk Management, Copenhagen, Denmark from August 17-20, 2008, Symogen managing director Dr Pipasha Biswas said. She was the student in the first batch of the certificate course in Pharmacovigilance & Pharmacoepidemiology by Symogen and the work was submitted as part of her thesis project.

Terming it as a `big boost to all students', Dr Pipasha said the student was also granted a scholarship by ISPE committee. The scholarship will cover the registration fee to attend the ICPE 2008, registration for Pre-ICPE courses, and a one-year membership in the Society.

Symogen initiated the first certificate course in Pharmacovigilance & Pharmacoepidemiology from September 2007, the first of its kind in India.The first batch of students completed the course in December 2007 that was held in New Delhi. The second batch started in March 2008 and concluded just now.
