Tapan Ray, former managing director, Kopran Limited, Mumbai, has joined Sami Labs Limited, a Bangalore-based health science company, as its director and CEO. He will directly report to Dr Muhammed Majeed, chairman of Sami Group of companies.

Ray comes to Sami Labs with an experience of 30 years in the field of pharmaceuticals, nutritional, diagnostic and hospital products in India and the United Kingdom. He was the managing director with Abbott Laboratories India Limited and as executive director with Glaxo India Limited.

Ray was the president of Organization of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) in 2001. He was also the chairman, OPPI Marketing Committee.
A holder of Masters in Geology, Ray is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad).
