Tata Memorial Centre awarded 'UICC Excellence award for Global Cancer Control'

The Tata Memorial Centre has been selected by the UICC, as the "Outstanding UICC Member Organization" for its overall performance and demonstrated excellence in cancer control beyond its borders.

The honour was awarded to the Centre at UICC World Cancer Congress held on July 7, 2006, at Washington, DC. UICC is a global organization of over 270 member organizations in 80 countries. Dr Dinsaw, the director of Tata Memorial Centre, received the award. Other awardees from the UICC this year include Lance Armstrong and president of Uruguay, Dr Vasquez for his cancer control and anti tobacco policies.

A hospital release said, during its 65 years of existence, Tata Memorial Centre has provided quality and affordable cancer care, to hundreds of thousands patients from all over the country as well as neighbouring countries, in addition to providing world class cancer care service to patients.

Tata Memorial has succeeded in developing a comprehensive cancer programme, which includes cancer research. The Centre has state of the art diagnostics, treatment and research facilities at its Parel campus and at ACTREC, its exclusive R&D centre in Navi Mumbai.

Tata Memorial runs various oncology programmes, including outreach programme for Mumbai and rural areas of Barshi in Sholapur and Chiplun in Ratnagiri district.
