Dr. MS Gowd of Hyderabad was awarded fellowship of the American College of Dentists, during the 83rd annual meeting and convocation held at San Francisco, USA. It has been given in recognition of his outstanding services and devotion to the advancement of the science and art of dentistry and for promoting the values of ethics, excellence and professionalism in dentistry and in community.
He is the only Indian dental surgeon to have been awarded this honour by the American College of Dentists for the year 2003. A Thailand based doctor has sponsored his candidature. He told Pharmabiz that globally, around 170 dentists have been awarded with the fellowship this year, of them 150 are from USA. And 7000 dentists have attended the convocation.
Dr. Gowd is an honorary dental surgeon to governor of Andhra Pradesh, immediate past-president of Indian Prosthodontic Society, Professor and Head of Department of Prosthodontics, Kamineni Institute of Dental Sciences. And founder-chairman of Dr.Gowds Dental Hospitals at Hyderabad.
The American College of Dentists was founded in 1920, to recognize dentists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dentistry. Fellowship in the college is by invitation and based on demonstrated leadership and contributions to the dental profession and society. Approximately 3.5 per cent of dentists are fellows of the American College of Dentists as per the latest report.
