Three-day conference of ENT surgeons begins in Chennai tomorrow

Recent advancements in the management of deafness, surgery of head and neck cancer, skull-base surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery and laser surgery will be highlighted at a three-day conference of ENT surgeons beginning here on Friday. Tamil Nadu Governor P S Ramamohan Rao will inaugurate the conference.

Being organized by the Association of Otolaryngolosits of India, nearly 500 ENT surgeons from all over the four southern states and the Union Territory of Pondicherry would attend the south zone conference coinciding with the sixth Tamil Nadu state conference, Dr. Mohan Kameswaran, renowned ENT surgeon and organising chairman maintained.

About 200 research papers would be presented at the conference when the ENT surgeons would update their knowledge and share experience with international faculty members.

Dr Mohan said phono surgery was the new area of specialisation in which voice disorders could be surgically corrected. This would be useful for politicians and musicians.

For the benefit of delegates, a practical demonstration of skull-base surgery and microsurgery of the inner and middle ear on cadavers by visiting faculties has also been planned.
