For educating the professionals of pharma industry, businessmen, traders and staff of the regulatory body, the industrial pharmacy division of the Tamil Nadu IPA is conducting a symposium on the subject “Management of Expired Drugs” in Chennai on June 19. .
The IPA is organizing the function in the wake of the recent expired drug scam in Tamil Nadu, of which the CB-CID of the state police is enquiring the case.
The CID sleuths are still arresting culprits involved from various parts of the state, and conducting raids of pharma stores along with drug inspectors.
Last Tuesday, they arrested V Murugan, the proprietor of Sri Mirra Medicals, Choolai. According to police reports, Murugan has given bills of Sri Mirra Medicals to one Muruganantham of Manapparai in Trichy District and to one Natarajan of Eranavur, Chennai for sale of spurious drugs. Both Muruganantham and Natarajan were already arrested on June 5 and are in judicial custody. From these three arrested bills used for sale of spurious medicines were seized. Further probe in this case is on.
According to IPA sources, M Bhaskaran, the Director of Drugs Control, Tamil Nadu will be the Chief Guest and Kaushik Desai, Chairman of IPA-IPD will preside over the function. B Raj, President- Aspire Consultants, will talk on ‘Systems for handling date expired products’ and Kishore Kar, Director-Sales, Pharma Secure will speak on ‘SMS based expired drug tracking solution-a novel approach’. R Sreenivasan, the founder president of PMA will deliver on ’Managing expired products-A trade perspective’.
J Jayaseelan, secretary of the Industrial Division, IPA said previously they had decided to invite officials from the pollution control board, but the decision was dropped. He said that this meeting is conducted exclusively for industrial professionals, hence entry for public is strictly restricted.
It is hoped that the participants will suggest ways and measures on how to handle the technology in the industry and how to recall the date expired drugs from circulation for destruction. IPA hopes to conduct training classes for people engaged in the drug business about various methods of handling drugs and destruction of the date expired, Jayaseelan said.
