All the different systems of treatment should have a holistic approach to cure diseases and there is a need to integrate complimentary therapies like Pranic healing for faster relief to patients, according to Grandmaster Choa Kok Sui, founder of the World Pranic Healing Foundation.

Inaugurating the Apollo Wellness Center in Chennai on Wednesday, this week, he said Pranic Healing is a safe and simple mode of treatment that works with the vital energy field that surrounds every individual. Pranic healers correct the imbalances of the energy body to rectify the diseases by the transference of vital energy to the affected parts of the body to activate the body's self-healing capacity. It is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Prana,' the vital energy or life force.

The transference of this energy for healing has been mentioned in scriptures like Mahabharatha and in the tales related to Jesus Christ, and has been practiced widely by our ancestors. The traditional Panchakarma masseurs of Kerala use their legs to massage the body with oil to concentrate and transfer this vital energy as a measure to improve the efficacy of their Ayurvedic treatment. Pranic cleansing of toxins in the chemical components of medication has been found to make drugs not only more effective, and also in some cases, reduce the side effects of drugs during the healing process.

Pranic Healing was widely practiced in the ancient civilizations of China, Egypt and India, and it is estimated that more than 70,000 Pranic Healers are in India. It has no side effects and has been found effective in treating diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, skin orders, migraine, stress and depression among others, said Grandmaster Choa Kok Sui, who revived, simplified and honed Pranic Healing to a science.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Prathap Reddy, chairman of Apollo Hospitals said alternative healing therapies have been in vogue for a long time and most of them like Pranic Healing are ancient Indian systems based on scientific principles that are finding their way into the world of medicine, as they contribute to one's physical, mental and emotional well being and effectively complement orthodox medicine.

The Wellness Centre, started at the Apollo Specialty Hospitals in Chennai has specialty divisions for Pranic Healing, aromatherapy, dietetics programme and Ayurveda.
