With an aim to help reach medical services to different categories of people in urban, semi urban and rural areas, the state government of Telangana has launched 3 mobile medical services.  ‘Bike Ambulances’, ‘Amma Vodi’ and ‘Project Rekkalul’ are the 3 mobile services which will cater to not only general public, but also serve the pregnant women and enable multipurpose healthcare assistants to reach out to the needy in the rural areas and serve them at their door steps.

The Bike ambulances medical services is first of its kind launched in the state especially focused at providing door to door medical services both in the rural and urban areas. Under Amma Vodi the existing fleet of 41 Ambulances have been increased to 200 vehicles which will cater exclusively to the needs of pregnant women. And under ‘Project Rekkalu’ the state government is providing mobility support to female multipurpose Healthcare Assistant (MPHA). With this the government is hoping to provide access to healthcare services to all sections of the society and particularly giving more stress on providing access to healthcare in the remote villages with no proper road connectivity.

Initially, the two wheeler ambulance on bikes is launched on a pilot basis.  Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao, while launching bike borne Ambulances in Hyderabad said, “As part of our commitment to strengthen the healthcare services in the state we are taking various measures from upgrading existing medical infrastructure in all the government hospitals, to filling up all the healthcare staff vacancies and equipping the hospitals with most modern medical devices like installing X-ray machines, ECG machines, establishing Intensive care units, and setting up dialysis centres. However to make these services more accessible to the rural people now have embarked on providing the healthcare services to the unreached in the remote areas through Bike Ambulances.”

According to senior healthcare officials, these services will go a long way in taking medical services to the doorsteps of patients, especially those who reside in remote areas.

At present the state has about 50 bike ambulances which will be operated by trained EMTs in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.
